Build Your Immune System
Winter is here and we are more than likely to catch a cold or the flu. You can prepare yourself and your family with herbs and home remedies to avoid infection and to build up a good strong immune system. Menopause can and does change your life. What did our grandmothers give us? They made up these good herbal remedies.. I still remember cod liver oil as a very good home remedy to take care of colds.
A strong immune system is essential for our body so it can fight and eliminate cancerous cells. It is difficult to ignore, it is almost impossible not to, we are scared about epidemics and the Swine flu.
We know that exercise will help our immune system, but we need to know that not all exercise will strengthen the immune system. If you work out too hard or over do your training, you will cause havoc on your body and it will create toxins that may produce to much of a hormone that will burden and may temporarily lower the immune system.
Dr. Zasloff says, while slathering yourself with sunscreen helps protect against skin cancer, it may deprive your immune system from vitamin D, a nutrient that research now links to immune function. In winter months the sun exposure will lessen and the vitamin D will be at a low level. Add to your regime plenty of vitamins and minerals to promote a strong immune system. I cannot say enough about the things that will help: nutrition, exercise, sleep, reduce stress, improve mood, get sunlight, and work on your environment. Nothing like being with good friends (women) and hanging out. You cannot have enough laughter or tears because it releases good chemicals that help rid the body of toxins that will take down the immune system.

May is America Heart and Stroke Month
In the month of May we have American Heart and Stroke month. And the CDC is also stepping up things and wants us to observe High Blood Pressure Awareness month. So we need to be taking a look at our health and our risks. How often do you check your blood pressure?
The heart is a very important organ in our bodies. When we reach the age of 50, this is about the age of natural menopause; our risk for heart disease increases considerably. Here is a list of risk factors:
· High blood pressure
· Smoking
· Diabetes
· High and Low cholesterol
· Overweight
· Heart disease in the family
· Inactive lifestyle
I have suffered with high blood pressure since 1996 and one of the contributing factors was fibroids and a family history. So my doctor put me on blood pressure medicine. It was a very mild dosage and had very little side affects. Can I treat my high blood pressure with diet and exercise? His response was yes you could. So I did just that and as of today my blood pressure is still kept maintained by diet and exercise.
Just making some healthy lifestyle changes would reduce your risk of heart disease. You can start adding some exercise to your life everyday and it would help you. Liver the Organ of Emotion
The liver is and important organ in the body and is the largest organ. The function of the liver is to store vitamins, sugars, fats, and other nutrients from the food you eat. It builds chemicals that your body needs to stay healthy, breaks down harmful substances like alcohol and other toxic (poisonous) chemicals, and removes waste products from your blood. Every organ, gland and tissue is dependent upon the liver, and the liver depends upon the digestive tract.
The liver is known as an organ of emotion and even thought. The liver is located behind the ribs on the right side of the abdomen. The liver empties harmful material from the blood and produces enzymes and bile that aids the digestive system. A healthy liver is critical to proper protein, carbohydrate, and fat metabolism. The liver performs numerous functions for the body: converting nutrients derived from food into essential blood components, storing vitamins and minerals, regulating blood clotting, producing proteins and enzymes, maintaining hormone balances, and metabolizing and detoxifying substances that would otherwise be harmful to the body.
The liver is connected to a lot of bodily organs. One of the most common diseases of the liver is hepatitis.
Hepatitis A, B and C are the most common forms of liver disease in the U.S. The liver is responsible for a lot of functions. The liver is responsible for our vision. If you are irritable and anger this affects the liver and here is what can result: menstrual pain, headache, redness of the face and eyes, dry mouth and dizziness. More than any other organ the liver is affected by our negative thoughts and feelings. The liver stores our blood, it opens our eyes and it rules our tendons and marks our nails.
A bad diet will gradually weaken the digestive system; the organ that is affected by this bad diet is the liver. This is why when people cleanse or take herbs to cleanse and strengthen the liver, strong emotions surface. The cleansing reaction must occur if we are to rid ourselves of the cause of our problems. Women suffering with menopausal and menstrual problems, infertility and endometriosis can get great results from a liver cleanse and detoxification. This is why cleansing of our liver is so important in helping rejuvenating the liver.
