I recently made a trip to the library and checked out numerous books regarding Menopause. I really went to pickup up some books I needed for a health fair I was participating in. The next thing you know I am adding all of these books from various authors dealing with using natural alternatives. One of the books that caught my attention was Kathy Smith’s book Moving Through Menopause. Another good thing about this book is that there is a dvd included. The topic of “Menopause”, or “The Change”, this subject was never brought up in many households. Today in the 21st century we are sharing the latest information and learning from one another.

In the dvd Kathy shares with us conversations she was having with other women. She also shares her wisdom and her personal experiences, and what she has learned going through her perimenopause journey. In her book she touches on a whole lot of information regarding how to maintain a healthy life. There is no way I can cover everything but I can share some very useful healthy tips with you. In order to maintain our health we need to have a cardiovascular program and strength training workout that helps us slim down our waistline and build strong muscles and bones. She also recommended keeping a journal, something I have been doing and I encourage my clients to do the same.

Kathy said, “Understand what you are going through”. This is something I like to tell my customers; that we all are unique individuals and what may work for me will not work for you. So we need to take control and be in charge of our lives and enjoy our stages in life as we go through them. She also has a dvd in her program called “Body Boomers Workout.” It offers you the perfect mind and body regime for all body fitness levels. In the book” Moving Through Menopause”, she offers you low-impact cardio workout, yoga and strength training designed to burn calories, protect your heart, increase mental focus, better sleep while improving balance posture and maintaining bone-density. It was a good book to read and I felt that she was targeting things that I was able to relate too. I do feel like the dvd is a complete set and overall was balanced talking about a complex topic. I would highly recommend that you give her book a read and try the dvd’s.

Winter is here and we are more than likely to catch a cold or the flu. You can prepare yourself and your family with herbs and home remedies to avoid infection and to build up a good strong immune system. Menopause can and does change your life. What did our grandmothers give us? They made up these good herbal remedies.. I still remember cod liver oil as a very good home remedy to take care of colds.

A strong immune system is essential for our body so it can fight and eliminate cancerous cells. It is difficult to ignore, it is almost impossible not to, we are scared about epidemics and the Swine flu.
We know that exercise will help our immune system, but we need to know that not all exercise will strengthen the immune system. If you work out too hard or over do your training, you will cause havoc on your body and it will create toxins that may produce to much of a hormone that will burden and may temporarily lower the immune system.

Dr. Zasloff says, while slathering yourself with sunscreen helps protect against skin cancer, it may deprive your immune system from vitamin D, a nutrient that research now links to immune function. In winter months the sun exposure will lessen and the vitamin D will be at a low level. Add to your regime plenty of vitamins and minerals to promote a strong immune system. I cannot say enough about the things that will help: nutrition, exercise, sleep, reduce stress, improve mood, get sunlight, and work on your environment. Nothing like being with good friends (women) and hanging out. You cannot have enough laughter or tears because it releases good chemicals that help rid the body of toxins that will take down the immune system.
Please see below a link that maybe useful and beneficial for you.

Nature Sunshine Products-
Silver Shield (liquid and gel) around your body! Have on hand for the cold and flu season

The liver is and important organ in the body and is the largest organ. The function of the liver is to store vitamins, sugars, fats, and other nutrients from the food you eat. It builds chemicals that your body needs to stay healthy, breaks down harmful substances like alcohol and other toxic (poisonous) chemicals, and removes waste products from your blood. Every organ, gland and tissue is dependent upon the liver, and the liver depends upon the digestive tract.

The liver is known as an organ of emotion and even thought. The liver is located behind the ribs on the right side of the abdomen. The liver empties harmful material from the blood and produces enzymes and bile that aids the digestive system. A healthy liver is critical to proper protein, carbohydrate, and fat metabolism. The liver performs numerous functions for the body: converting nutrients derived from food into essential blood components, storing vitamins and minerals, regulating blood clotting, producing proteins and enzymes, maintaining hormone balances, and metabolizing and detoxifying substances that would otherwise be harmful to the body.
The liver is connected to a lot of bodily organs. One of the most common diseases of the liver is hepatitis.

Hepatitis A, B and C are the most common forms of liver disease in the U.S. The liver is responsible for a lot of functions. The liver is responsible for our vision. If you are irritable and anger this affects the liver and here is what can result: menstrual pain, headache, redness of the face and eyes, dry mouth and dizziness. More than any other organ the liver is affected by our negative thoughts and feelings. The liver stores our blood, it opens our eyes and it rules our tendons and marks our nails.

A bad diet will gradually weaken the digestive system; the organ that is affected by this bad diet is the liver. This is why when people cleanse or take herbs to cleanse and strengthen the liver, strong emotions surface. The cleansing reaction must occur if we are to rid ourselves of the cause of our problems. Women suffering with menopausal and menstrual problems, infertility and endometriosis can get great results from a liver cleanse and detoxification. This is why cleansing of our liver is so important in helping rejuvenating the liver.

The age most women reach menopause is between 45 and 55 years of age is the average and for reaching menopause is about 50 years. There are a small percentage of women that reach menopause before age 40. What are menopause allergies? They are allergens that have substances, often times eaten or inhaled, that can cause an allergic reaction when recognized by the immune system. The problem that makes it worse, it can be almost anything that menopausal women are allergic too.

Our body immune system and body hormones use the same chemical messenger that allergies react from. These changes will affect the overall working of our bodies. It all comes back to our hormones that is imbalanced due to our menopause. Our immune system will suffer and make menopausal woman more prone to allergies. Just to name some of the allergy symptoms we suffer with. The allergy symptoms will affect each individual differently some will be mild to severe. As for myself I can experience very mild to severe symptoms. I have just gotten to know my body well over the 50 years and understand what is going on. Also note that what caused your hypersensitive today may change the next day. This of course presents problems for the medical practioners dealing with menopause and allergies symptoms. This is why we have to take charge of our lives and research and look for natural healthy alternatives.

Allergies are often the result of an overloaded toxic state within the liver. As I have been studying diet and herbs, the human body I found out a lot about the liver and the important role it plays. If the quantity of a substance entering the bloodstream is too great for the liver to process quickly, the immune system recognizes the molecules as being an allergen and produces antibodies against them. So if the liver is filtering and processing correctly the allergen would not have the affect on our body. The allergy season is upon us and I have started to experience some of these symptoms listed. What I have noticed is since I am doing a cleanse right now my body is fighting the allergy symptoms. The Chinese call this formula “tiao he,” which means “harmonizing.” In herbology, it is considered a liver-cleansing formula.

This is where lifestyle changes should begin and be very careful when choosing a remedy or medicine to treat the allergy symptom. Keep your windows and doors close to prevent pollen and other allergens from entering into the home or car. Wash your bed sheets and linen in hot water at least once a week. Also buy allergy free pillowcases and bed protectors. Take a look at your diet, exercise and start eating right. Start taking natural supplements that will relieve these symptoms.

In order for our body to function at its peak performance it is important that we get the amount of water needed. Remember that our body is about 75 percent water and it is easy to understand water must be our body’s most essential daily ingredient. Our bodies loose each day about 2-3 litters of water through elimination, urination, perspiration and respiration.

For some woman, menopause is a blessing; for others, it’s a continuation of the curse, or so they perceive. Accepting menopause in a positive way might present a challenge to some, but can be done, if you so chose to. Let’s talk about how.

While menopause is a new change in the life of a woman, each of us are unique and react differently to it. Some find that it is a liberating experience, and thus embrace the process whole heartedly with every ounce of physical, sexual and emotional freedom that comes with it. Others may take the view that it is the end of a fulfilling and nurturing part of life. This is combined with the symptoms and severity thereof, to gauge how a woman views menopause and all that is involved with it.

Accepting menopause when viewed as a benefit is often associated with the most immediate and obvious benefits: No monthly menstrual cycles, nor the cramping, bloating and mood swings that come along with it. Sex becomes unrestricted in that pregnancy is no longer a concern. Many even believe that the sex gets dramatically better after menopause. Relationships reach new previously unobtainable levels of communication. Menopause is the quintessential indication that you as a woman have reached physical and emotional maturity, and are capable of handling anything and everything life can offer.

By embracing life, and all that it offers, including menopause, you will find this to be a blessing. While most women will accept changes to their bodies, menopause allows you the opportunity to embrace your body, and all that it is enduring.

Do you recall what your first period was like? It is very likely you were looking forward to it at the time. You may have felt a bit awkward; your body still changed and blossomed into womanhood. This is the same for menopause; during menopause there are some periods of awkwardness. Normally these coincide with the learning to adapt to your body’s changes both physically and emotionally. Once you have passed through this time, you will blossom once again, this time into an empowered woman full of exhilaration and wonder.

It is important, and crucial you seek to create the same feeling of happiness you felt when you blossomed into womanhood. This is a new milestone that can be and should be embraced with optimistic emotional and mental thoughts. Loving relationships, intimacy, and communication are just parts of the circle post-menopause. It will always be possible to speak with other women in the same change, and through their comfort and encouragement you will see the wonder that comes with menopause. This will without a doubt provide you with real freedom and joy.

Hello, my name is Tally Green and I reside in Loganville, Georgia. I am a 50 year old hardworking woman and the titles I wear are wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, caregiver, office manager, home based business owner, and “hot flash” coach. I have been married twenty years and together my husband and I have a total of six children. I also am very pleased to say that I have been blessed with seven and a half grandchildren, number eight due in May 2009.

When menopause walked in my door, I was not prepared for it. The doctors did not know what the issue was and neither did I. I was lost in the sauce and needed some help to figure it all out.

When I started looking for healthy natural alternatives, I was at an end with my doctors. To the best of my recollection, the menopause symptoms started in 1997. The hot flashes were what drove me the craziest. At the time, I did not understand what was going on with my body. I had no idea this was the start of menopause. I began to suffer with real bad cramps and a very heavy loss of blood during my cycles. This is what led me to think that there may be something wrong with my body.

The doctor said that I had Menorraghia, which is excessive bleeding during menstruation. Then came the fibroids, cysts, and urinary incontinence, breast problems, weight gain, fatigue, high blood pressure, acid reflex, anxiety attacks, memory loss, fits of rage, incontrollable crying, depression, midriff bulge, and the list still goes on. There are close to thirty-five symptoms of pre-menopause and menopause.

My doctors had done every test they could think of. None of them came back with the reason for suffering. No one was able to say, “You are going through menopause.” The test for hormones revealed nothing showing I was in menopause. This is when I had to take control of my health and search for natural, healthy alternatives. It was quite an interesting journey.

I searched the internet for networking groups with the hopes of finding people using herbs and natural supplements. In my search I was reminded of Matthew 7:7 – “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened for you.”

I found this Ryze network and there were a lot of individuals with home based businesses. So, I began my search for people using natural healthy alternatives. Then I joined a women’s group called WIN, Women In Networking. In WIN, women are all in home based business and a lot of them were promoting healthy product alternatives. This was the place where I found answers to my symptoms and my life turned in the right direction.

I joined this hormone yahoo group that was ran by a very determined woman who went on a quest for her health, found it, and was on a mission to help other women like herself. She shared her success story and it inspired me. Little did I know that this would be the turning point in my life and so it became my desire to share with all women the natural ways to heal their minds, bodies, and spirits by using natural health alternatives.

She helped me to understand that my hormones needed to be balanced. She started me with an all natural progesterone cream and that is when the symptoms started to become manageable. My life was looking up. There still were the usual ups and downs, but things got better. I stayed on this site and networked myself with women that were into living a healthy life.

I sought help for myself and started reading everything I could get my hands on and that dealt with diet, herbs, organic, natural, and essential oils. I sought help and advice from women who were knowledgeable in their respected field of natural and women’s health. I talked with health consultants, naturopaths, certified herbalists, aroma therapists, and yoga instructors. I attended classes, workshops, conferences and online classes. I started learning about exercise and began taking yoga classes. I found out how yoga was beneficial in aiding me with the stress associated with day to day life and my menopause stage.

I am passionate about health and helping all women learn the natural ways to heal there minds, bodies, and spirits.
My life journey has allowed me to experience tough lessons and to learn from the hard knocks in life. None of this would have been possible without my spiritual walk with my Creator. As well as the joy I find in my children and grandchildren, family and friends.

My favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11-14 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

In my walk with menopause I have been spiritual, accepted, celebrated, balanced, embraced, inspired and motivated. Now what does that tell you about my walk that if I can overcome and then we all can overcome menopause.
