There is a study conducted that has linked gum disease to the risk of heart disease. It is due to the same inflammation that affects our gums, also affects the blood vessels and our heart. You need to make sure you are flossing on a regular basis. In a study performed at the American

Association for the Advancement of Science meeting it suggests that the bacteria present in gum diseases may trigger blood clots that can contribute to a heart attack or stroke. According to Dr. Timothy Rose, AAP President, this new study supports accumulating research that identifies gum disease as significantly increasing the risk for heart disease. The AAP believes emerging research in this area may establish periodontal disease as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Women who are in the menopause stages some may develop a condition called menopausal gingivostomatitis, in which the gums are dry, shiny, and bleed easily. Women may also experience abnormal tastes and sensations (such as salty, spicy, acidic, and burning) in the mouth. When we have and estrogen deficiency after menopause it reduces bone mineral density, which can lead to bone loss. We experience bone loss from periodontal disease and osteoporosis. Our female hormones affect the gums, and we women are particularly susceptible to periodontal problems.

Here are some healthy tips to prevent gum disease:

1. Brush your teeth regularly

2. Use a natural mouthwash and toothpaste

3. Floss regularly

4. Get regular checkups at your dentist

5. Doing a good colon cleanse to get rid of toxins that could be contributing to the problem

6. Change your diet, eat a lot of raw foods, especially fruits and vegetables, drink a lot of water

7. Get a good toothbrush and a water pick

8. Try using and reading up on natural digestive enzymes and tea tree oil (make sure you ask for instructions when dealing with essential oils)

9. Check your ph balance

10. Take a natural supplement of calcium, multi-vitamin, minerals and vitamin C is helpful.

Do not stop taking your medications without doctor’s instructions.

The heart is a very important organ in our bodies. When we reach the age of 50, this is about the age of natural menopause; our risk for heart disease increases considerably. So my doctor put me on blood pressure medicine. It was a very mild dosage and had very little side affects. Can I treat my high blood pressure with diet and exercise? His response was yes you could. So I did just that and as of today my blood pressure is still kept maintained by diet and exercise.
